Gosford Forest Park: Where Deer Pose for Wheelchair Users

Morning mist, rustling leaves under hooves…
Thanks to Camping NI, I came face-to-face with the kings of Irish forests. At Gosford Forest Park – where nature truly excludes no one – I photographed a stag herd from just 50 meters!

Barrier-Free Photography

My gear:

· Nikon Z9 – swift as a stag’s leap
· Nikkor 180-600mm f/6.3 – capturing the fire in a buck’s eyes
But the real hero? Accessible terrain. Paved paths let me track the herd without battling rough ground. While others ventured into thickets, I waited by the watering hole – and the strategy worked!

“Antlers emerging from ferns – priceless. Knowing I could witness this despite my wheelchair? Priceless-er!”

Regret vs. Gratitude

I admit: frustration bites when I can’t crawl 3 km through wetlands to watch badgers. But Gosford taught me:
✅ Wildlife comes to prepared viewpoints
✅ Patience > physical endurance
✅ The forest has a hundred paths – find yours

Passion Is Never Disabled

While others tracked deer, I…

· Assembled giant puzzles in the club tent
· Planned a Cessna simulator flight on my tablet
· Listened to tales of Norwegian motorcycle trails

Because life isn’t a race with passion limits. It’s a tapestry of experiences – photography, fishing, or piloting – each worthy of wonder.
